Margaret couldn't believe how fast and easy Pictory was to use!
Margaret is a YouTuber and classes herself as a beginner in video production. Today she speaks to us about how easy Pictory functions are to use, how the speed of video creation allows you to produce content and how she enjoys our Pictory community.
Pete Bennett: Today. I'm here with Margaret who's a beginner YouTuber and she's going to talk to us a little bit about her Pictory journey.
So first of all, thanks for joining me, Margaret.
Margaret: Thank you for having me, I appreciate it.
Pete Bennett: So tell me a little bit about yourself and your YouTube journey so far.
Margaret: I consider myself a beginner. I guess one of my biggest issues is I'm not consistent. I always call myself a beginner, but I've been doing it for probably four years now.
I like the idea of YouTube because I'm not a writer and I just find YouTube is much easier for me to go on, talk and produce YouTube content.
Pete Bennett: So you've been doing it for a while. In fact, you've been doing it for longer than Pictory has been around. How were you creating YouTube videos before using Pictory?
Margaret: I didn't like being on camera myself. I want to be an affiliate marketer.
That's what I would like to do is to be an affiliate marketer and, but I don't like appearing on camera.
A friend suggested a platform called Vidnami, where I could go on and produce videos without being on camera all the time.
You could still be on camera, but you don't have to be on all the time and I was really enjoying that process.
I was getting very comfortable with it and they were good about making changes that were suggested. But one day I woke up and Vidnami was no more.
I think they gave us a couple of weeks' notice that they were going to close, it was a scramble.
Through lots of conversation within the Vidnami platform on their Facebook group page, I discovered Pictory and it was the one I liked best.
Pete Bennett: Well, thank you for saying that and we're very glad that you're with us.
We've worked very hard to make Pictory I would say better than Vidnami.
Vidnami was great, well-loved, but it doesn't do anywhere near as much as Pictory does nowadays.
Margaret: I think it's been like a year, a year and a half now but honestly, the changes and improvements that you've made when I first came on, have been astounding.
Pete Bennett: Well we have grown the team and we aim to bring out new updates every few weeks.
We aim for a couple of weeks, sometimes it's three weeks, or four weeks, but regular updates and we're very much driven by the requests that people post in the Facebook group.
We want to become the best platform for all creators, not just YouTube, but all creators. And YouTube is our primary market at the moment where we're getting an awful lot of people coming on board and growing successful channels using us.
So we're very happy with that.
Margaret: One of the things I do like about it is that I do get an email, I think it's once a week you're telling me what's been proposed, what you've done with the proposals that may have to wait a bit.
We as users are kept in the loop a lot. It's like you're not doing things behind the scenes and keeping the users in the dark, I like how you let us know what's coming.
Pete Bennett: Well, we're on a journey together Margaret, people like you who are active within the group are helping us because we want to provide what you all want to see. It’s as simple as that.
And you know, we're getting there, we're growing the team as we get bigger, we'll recruit more and more people.
So it's only going to go one way and that one way is to the moon.
Margaret: I would like to give a shout-out to the two women from when I send in a request. I usually do it through an email, explaining one of my issues. I always get a response within 24 hours.
I know Pictory is worldwide and I'm not sure where these women work, but they're very responsive.
Pete Bennett: The two ladies I think you're talking about are Nisha and Isha and they're based in India.
So very long hours, they work very hard and try to be available. So shout out to the ladies, well done!
So, in terms of your workflow, just go through briefly how you would make a video using Pictory. Then if someone hasn't used the product before, they can get some understanding as to how it's used.
Margaret: Okay, well there are four different avenues to use it, my general one is the one that I always use is a text video. I just go in and plug in my text.
I actually separate my text into single sentences, then I just go to proceed and Pictory generates the visuals.
I generally use the visuals, I find half and half of them are great. Any other ones I have to change, I'm not sure if that's expected on all platforms, but that's what I find I have to change.
I like to record my video in one swoop, I'm not fussy about the voice-overs but that's just me in general.
I don't use AI voice-overs, it's not necessarily your platform, it's any AI voices for me, I'd rather use my own voice.
I upload my voice and I am able to edit scene by scene. On my computer, I don't find the sound to be of great quality, because I do not have an external mic.
When I pre-record the whole video, I upload it and then for me it's excellent. The timing of the voice-over scenes is very good when I upload the whole audio at once.
Pete Bennett: Well that's something which I know the guys have worked very hard on, to make the voice synchronisation work well.
If it’s something that you've ever tried to do on a desktop editor using something similar to premiere pro or final cut. Which are two of the most popular ones for the PC and Mac.
Using those programs can be so time-consuming. The fact that Pictory does that for you, is going to save you hours on every single video.
Margaret: I don't know if I would have the patience to use those other platforms, which is one of the reasons why I like Pictory, because I don't have a lot of patience.
I just want to get in and get the video done and get it out, that's why I appreciate Pictory so much.
Pete Bennett: That's really the design imperative for us, to make something that allows people who don't want to necessarily invest lots of time, effort and money on expensive software for their computers. They are now able to make videos in the cloud quickly, easily and cost-effectively.
I have a final question for you. If there was somebody that was thinking of trying Pictory but wasn't sure whether or not they should do that. What would you say to them?
Margaret: I would say “Go for it”. Even if you don’t like being on camera, go for it! Because you can put your own videos in there and still use Pictory.
For myself or if you're the type of person that likes going in and spending lots of time and playing around, use something else.
If you want things short and sweet use Pictory. As the saying goes, time is money.
Even if you're a producer of videos for other people or other companies, if you're selling these, the quality of Pictory is excellent.
If you're a seller of videos, I don't think you would have a challenge in making your money back right away.
Pete Bennett: That's brilliant.
Margaret: I would say use Pictory because I don't know of anything else out there that's as efficient for the price investment. It's literally no investment at all.
Pete Bennett: Margaret, thank you so much for your kind words, it’s been wonderful speaking to you and finally a shout out to the ladies in support for helping us all on our journey.
Margaret: And for yourself Pete, you're always there as well. The Facebook group that you invite all the members of Pictory to be in, is a plethora of information and support.
Even the members of the group are very supportive and I like ‘Share it Friday’, I believe it's called?
Pete Bennett: Flaunt it Friday, If you've got it, flaunt it, that's what we say.
Margaret: I like that because we get to see without really having to hunt down projects others have created. It’s nice to see other people's work. So again, thank you very much.
I appreciate your time and for asking me to do this it’s been wonderful.
Pete Bennett: It's been a pleasure speaking to you and thank you very much for your time.
